Dum Dum Pops were originated by Akron Candy Co., Bellevue, Ohio, in 1924.
I.C. Bahr, the early sales manager of the company, named the ball-shaped
candy on a stick and figured dum-dum was a word any child could say.

1966!

Spangler History: In March of 1953, Spangler purchased the trade name along with equipment and
machinery to make Dum Dums and moved the operation to Bryan. After the wax
wrapped pops had been in production in Bryan for just four weeks, a celebration
was held to mark their entry into the Spangler fold.
On June 4, 1953, a special
Dum Dum booth outside the factory supplied Dum Dums free to all the children
(grownups, too) and offered chances to win special gift prizes.
