This photo shows Dum Dum packaging in 1953. Over 84 million Dum Dums, amounting to 2 million pounds of candy, were made during the first year of production. Dum Dum Pops were originated by the Akron Candy Co., Bellevue, Ohio, in 1924. I.C. Bahr, the early sales manager of the company, named the ball-shaped candy on a stick and figured dum-dum was a word any child could say.
Dum Dums have a mystery flavor with question marks on the wrapper. This flavor can be any one of the 16 flavors or a combination of any two flavors. You just don't know what you might get!
There have been many great Dum Dum flavors in our history, including Lime, Banana, Chocolate, Raspberry, and Coconut-Pineapple. We're always coming up with great new flavors for our products. Check out our web site at www.dumdumpops.com and vote for your favorite flavors.
