Spangler History: In March of 1953, Spangler purchased the trade name along with equipment and machinery to make Dum Dums and moved the operation to Bryan. After the wax wrapped pops had been in production in Bryan for just four weeks, a celebration was held to mark their entry into the Spangler fold.
On June 4, 1953, a special Dum Dums booth outside the factory supplied Dum Dums free to all the children (grownups, too) and offered chances to win special gift prizes.
