Spangler Candy Joins Confectioner Alliance
Bryan, OH December 1999:
Six candy manufacturers, including Spangler Candy, have announced their formation of the Confectioners Alliance. The purpose of the Alliance is to enhance competition in the candy industry by increasing placement and distribution of products, increasing efficiencies in production, improving distribution and service, and giving consumers wider choices and better value.
Members of the Alliance are American Licorice Co., Ferrara Pan Candy Co. Inc., Goetze's Candy Company, Incorporated, Necco/Stark/Haviland, Van Melle USA, Inc., and Spangler Candy Company. All are long-established independent confectionery manufacturers.
American Licorice is headquartered in Union City, California. Their brands include Belly Busters, Bites, Licorice Vines, Red Sticks, Red Twist, Super Ropes, Twistetts, and Sour Punch Candy Straws.
Ferrara Pan Candy Company is located in Chicago, Illinois. Atomic Fireballs, Lemonheads, Red Hots, Boston Baked Beans, and Black Forest Gummies are among well-known Ferrara brands.
The Goetze's Candy Company is based in Baltimore, Maryland. Goetze's brands include Cow Tales, Caramel Creams, and Old Fashioned Caramel Apple Sticks.
Necco/Stark/Haviland operates from headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is one of the oldest candy companies in the country. Necco/Stark/Haviland brands include Necco wafers, Mary Janes, Sweethearts, Haviland Thin Mints, and Clark Bar.
Van Melle USA, is based in Erlanger, Kentucky. They manufacture brands including Airheads and Mentos.
Bryan, Ohio has been home to Spangler Candy Company since it was founded in 1906. Spangler Candy produces a large general line of confections including Dum Dum Pops, Saf-T-Pops, Astro Pops, Marshmallow Circus Peanuts, Spangler Chocolates, Suck and Egg novelty lollipops, Valentine, Easter, Halloween, & Christmas candies, and Traditional Candy Canes & Cane Classics.
