Spangler Candy Employees Contribute to September 11 Charities
Bryan, OH January 2002:
Spangler Candy Company and its employees contributed $6,960 to three different charities established to assist those affected by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The company matched all contributions made by employees. The United Way 9/11 fund received $1,880, the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund received $3,100, and the New York Firefighters 9/11 Disaster Relief Fund received $1,980.
"The employees of Spangler Candy Company joined everyone else in their desire to help in some way following the September 11 tragedy," said Dean L. Spangler, President and CEO. "In addition to their financial contributions, our employees organized and implemented a campaign to send cards to sixteen Spangler family members in military service to our country."
The cards were collected at Spangler, then packaged and sent to those serving. The company added some Spangler treats and covered the cost of shipping the packages. "It was a great way of saying 'Thank You' to those who are protecting our country," said Diane Helf, a Spangler employee.
