Spangler Candy Elects New Vice Presidents
Bryan, OH February 2006:
Dean L. Spangler, President and CEO for Spangler Candy Company, has announced the recent election of new vice presidents at Spangler Candy Company. Three individuals were elected as vice presidents; James B. Knight, Vice President-Marketing; Kirkland B. Vashaw, Vice President-Contract Business; and Stephen S. Kerr, Vice President-Bryan Manufacturing.
The three join William G. Martin, named in 2003 as Vice President-CFO; and R. Denny Gunter, named in 2000 as Vice President-Sales. The CEO and the vice presidents comprise the company's management committee. "The election of the new vice presidents marks the completion of a careful transition that Spangler has made with its key leadership positions over the past several years."
James B. Knight, Vice President-Marketing, came to work for Spangler in 1996 as a Brand Manager, and in the succeeding years, became Marketing Manager and then Director of Marketing. He became a member of the Management Committee in 2000. He is responsible for marketing activities at the company including product development, product portfolio management, and web development. Jim received his bachelor's degree in Management Systems from GMI (now Kettering) in 1989. He received his MBA from Indiana University in 1992. He worked for four years in sales, service, and marketing at Allison Transmission, Division of General Motors, in Indianapolis. He and his wife, Lora, have three children.
Kirkland B. Vashaw, Vice President-Contract Business, came to Spangler Candy in 2003 as Disney Manager, and became Director of Contractual Business Activities. Prior to Spangler, he worked for three years as Product Manager in the marketing department at the Gillette Company in Boston, MA. He received a bachelor's degree with distinction in Engineering from Cornell University in 1994. Following six years as a Project Manager with Gilbane Building Company in Hartford, Conn., obtained his MBA degree with high distinction from the University of Michigan. Kirk's responsibilities with Spangler include overseeing all activities related to product Spangler sells to other manufacturers and product that Spangler purchases from outside suppliers. He and his wife, Sarah, have one daughter.
Stephen S. Kerr, Vice President-Bryan Manufacturing, was first employed at Spangler in 1986 as Candy Cane Supervisor. He later worked as Second Shift Superintendent, First Shift Superintendent, and in 2003 was named Director of Manufacturing. His present responsibilities include overseeing manufacturing, quality assurance, engineering, process and support services, maintenance, and sanitation. Steve is a 1986 graduate of Denison University with a bachelor's degree in Economics and a minor in Psychology. He and his wife, Susan, have twin daughters.
William G. Martin, Vice President-Chief Financial Officer, came to Spangler in 1999 as Controller, and was later promoted to Director-Finance/Administration and then CFO. He is responsible for the finance/accounting, human resources, process improvement, credit/customer service and IT departments. Bill is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor's degree in accounting and is a CPA with the State of Ohio. Prior to his work at Spangler, he was Vice President and Controller for Pilliod Furniture in Greensboro, NC. He and his wife, Donna, have four children.
R. Denny Gunter, Vice President-Sales, came to work for Spangler in 1994 as Regional Sales Manager, and later became National Account Sales Director before moving to his current role overseeing all sales activities of the company. Denny attended DeKalb University. Prior to Spangler, he worked as a Regional Sales Manager for Borden Niche Grocery for three years, Director of Sales for President Baking Company for four years, and Key Account Executive for C&S Marketers, Inc./Promark for eight years. Denny and his wife, Sheila, have two daughters.
