Bryan, OH February 2001:
Spangler Candy Company advances a step in automotive racing this year when the Spangler-sponsored #07 Dum Dum Pops Ford Taurus, driven by Tully Esterline, competes in two races in the 2001 American Speed Association (ASA) AC Delco series. The Spangler Candy Company Ford's ASA races include St. Augustine, Florida on Feb. 17, and Irwindale, California on March 10. ASA races are televised live on TNN, The National Network, Spangler Candy has joined forces with Noah Yoder Ford of Hicksville, Ohio to send Esterline and the Yoder Racing crew to the ASA races.
Esterline is eager to get his feet wet this year with a few races, and he hopes to run a full ASA season in 2002. For the past two years, Esterline has driven in the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) series, earning ninth place points both seasons with the Spangler Candy Company Dum Dum Pops Chevy pickup.
"Racing continues to be America's number one spectator sport," said Dean L. Spangler, President and CEO of Spangler Candy. "Putting the Spangler Candy name on Tully Esterline's car is an exciting way to promote our products in an important geographic market. Tully's advance to the ASA Racing series will bring even more exposure to our company and our products," Spangler added.
Automotive racing fans are a very loyal audience. As his truck did the past two seasons, Esterline's car will display the Spangler logo and Dum Dum Pops brand on their transport vehicle, driver uniforms, crew shirts, and other items such as caps and t-shirts that will be for sale. The team will be passing out Dum Dum Pops at races and appearances, and the car will appear at store openings and other Spangler promotional events.
