Dum Dum Pops® Named Best Candy in the Western Hemisphere

Spangler Candy Company's Dum Dum Pops® was named as one of three finalists for the Best Candy and Confectionery in the Western Hemisphere Award at the first annual Americas Food and Beverage Awards program.
The awards were presented on Dec. 4 at the Americas Food and Beverage Trade Show and Conference in Miami, FL. The show, held at the World Trade Center, hosts more than 500 domestic and international companies from over 70 countries exhibiting thousands of products and services.
Pat Hurley, Spangler Candy Company's Director of Technical Services, represented the company and received the trophy. Spangler Candy joined World's Best Cheesecake, Inc. in Ashland, VA as one of two U.S. companies and four companies overall receiving the Best Candy and Confectionery in the Western Hemisphere award. The other finalist was Dulces del Valle Ltda of Buga, Columbia, and the overall winner was Productos Alimenticios Santillana, Ltda, of Bogota, Columbia.
Judges for the Award were selected from restaurants, media, supermarket chains, catering, grocery stores and gourmet stores.
The Americas Food and Beverage Trade Show and Conference is the only show focused on the products of 47 countries in the Western Hemisphere. Exhibiting countries include-among others-Canada, the five nations of the Andean community (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela), Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Paraguay, and Guatemala; as well as the European nations of France, Italy and Spain. In addition to the Best Candy & Confectionery Award, awards also were given in the following categories: Best Non-Alcoholic Beverage; Best Salsa/Sauce/Condiments; and Best Snack Food.
The Americas Food and Beverage Trade Show and Conference is sponsored by Comunidad Andina (Andean Community), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the World Trade Center Miami.
