Dum Dums Launches Make Life A Little Sweeter Contest
For its 100th anniversary celebration, Spangler Candy Company
rewards those whose little acts of kindness make a big difference.
Bryan, OH April 2006:
Sometimes the little things make life sweeter, and can even change the world.
Perhaps no one believes this more than Spangler Candy Company, makers of Dum Dum Pops® -- the little pops that bring big smiles -- and other candy favorites. To celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2006, Spangler Candy announces the Dum Dum Pops "Make Life a Little Sweeter" essay contest to recognize those who, like the lollipops, brighten the lives of others through small gestures of kindness and generosity.
"Often it's the small gestures people do that can have a big impact in someone's life, maybe changing them forever," said President and CEO Dean Spangler. "These are the people we want to find: the unsung heroes who always have a caring word, a good deed, or a warm smile that makes a difference in the life of one person or impacts an entire community," Spangler added.
Kindness pays. Starting June 12, 2006, anyone can go to www.dumdumpops.com and click on the contest link to submit heart-warming stories about people young and old who carry on the Dum Dum Pops legacy of expressing generosity and goodwill in every day life. One winner in each of three categories (youth ages 13-18, adults ages 19-55, and seniors ages 56+) will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a case of 2,000 Dum Dum Pops, and the winners' nominators will receive Dum Dum Pops and a Dum Dum Pops t-shirt. Fifty first-prize winners in each age group also will receive candy and t-shirts. Official rules and nomination forms are available at www.dumdumpops.com from June 12 - August 31, 2006, and will be distributed as the Dum Dum Drum Man tours the country throughout Summer 2006. Winners will be announced in September 2006.
Brand Manager Diana Moore Eschhofen said, "Most everyone has a favorite memory connected to kindheartedness: a neighbor who gave treats to the kids on the block, a teacher who reached out in a special way, or a beloved local business operator who had a kind word at just the right moment. It's not so much the small act of giving as the way it can make a person feel. We want to honor those who share this spirit and might otherwise go unnoticed. "
Spangler makes over 8 million Dum Dum Pops every day in an array of 16 +1 flavors, from butterscotch to blu raspberry and more, plus the famous Mystery Flavor™. Flavors rotate based in part on consumer input and voting at www.dumdumpops.com. For the centennial celebration, two new flavors are introduced: cherry cola and pink lemonade, and two retro favorites are brought back: banana (first introduced in 1960) and coconut-pineapple (first introduced in 1953).
In addition to Dum Dum Pops, Spangler also makes more candy canes than anyone in the world, along with other brands such as Saf-T-Pops®, Spangler® Circus Peanuts and Spangler® Chocolates.
